Reino das Matas
The wild dominion — green darkness, root and resin. The kingdom of the Matas governs health, herbcraft, the breaking of curses and the sovereignty of those who walk apart from the city.
The Matas is the green pharmacy of Quimbanda. Its Exus and Pomba Giras teach the use of leaves, barks, roots and resins. Every herbal bath, every smoke cleansing, every uncrossing work descends from this kingdom.
It is also the realm of refuge — the place to which the persecuted soul flees, the wilderness in which the worker recovers strength. The Matas restores what the city wears down.
Lord of the Green
Master of herbs and root-craft. He teaches which leaf cleanses, which bark binds, which sap heals.
The Black-Caped Hunter
Walker of the forest paths. He defends the worker from spiritual ambush and breaks the curses laid in secret.
Lord of the Trunk
Guardian of the great tree at the edge of the wood. He is the anchor at which all forest work begins and ends.
Lady of the Wild
Feminine sovereign of the kingdom. She rules over herbal baths, intuition and the recovery of inner sovereignty.
Offerings are placed at the foot of a great tree, never on bare earth. The worker enters and leaves the forest by the same path and asks permission of the Tronqueira before touching any plant.
The worker greets the great tree at the edge of the wood and asks leave to enter — no work proceeds without it.
A bundle of dry herbs is lit and passed around the body before approaching the working site.
The sigil is drawn on the bare earth with charcoal or wet ash, never with chalk.
Green and black candles for Exus, green and red for Pomba Giras. Always shielded from the wind by stones.
The request is spoken in a low voice, as one speaks to a living animal one does not wish to startle.
The worker leaves the forest by the path they entered, thanking the Tronqueira at the threshold.
The Uncrossing Bath
Seven herbs are gathered with permission of the Mata, boiled and poured over the body from neck downward. Strips negative attachments and restores the aura.
The Anchoring at the Trunk
A long-term consecration in which a stone, iron rod or wooden figure is fed at the base of a chosen tree. It binds the worker to the kingdom of the Matas.
Offering of the Forest
The classical despacho: cachaça, herbs, honey, candles and tobacco laid at the foot of a great tree. Used for healing, protection and the reversal of curses.
The Hunter's Walk
A slow walk along a forest path under the guidance of Exu Capa Preta. Performed to track the origin of a spiritual attack and bring it to light.
